Our aim should be to understand and ponder over the Holy Quran to get guidance from it for the betterment of an individual as well as society.
Our aim should not be just to get knowledge of Quran. Because if only it's knowledge can provide guidance then orientalists would be the most guided people on the earth. So, God-consciousness and pure intensions are required to get guidance from the Quran.
Allah Almighty also mentioned in the Quran:

Guidance for those, who are conscious of Allah Almighty.
